Survival Trek

Bin wieder zurück in der Zivilisation. Ich will mich schon im voraus für diesen längeren Blog entschuldigen. Aber ich war jetzt für einige Zeit in der Wüste von Brasilien und hatte somit kein Internet, doch ich durfte vieles lernen und erleben.

Am 14. September ging die Reise los. Wir fuhren runter nach Caracol, wo wir noch letzte Vorbereitungen erledigten bevor es dann los ging. Am Sontag morgen war es dann so weit und wir marschierten los. Unser Ziel war es durch den National Park „Serra das confuções“ zu laufen. Niemand weis genau wie viel Kilometer die ganze Reise sein sollte. Wir mussten auf jedenfalls die letzten 50km gefahren werden, weil wir es zeitlich wie auch physisch nicht mehr schaffen konnten. Aber zurück zum Anfang. Am ersten Tag machten wir ca. 17km zu fuss und mit zwei Eseln, die unser Wasser und Gepäck getragen haben. Als wir dann am Nachmittag im ersten Dorf angekommen sind, haben sie uns schon erwartet. Wir blieben in diesem Dorf für zwei Tage. In diesen zwei Tagen haben wir Kinderstunden gehabt, Frauenstunden, Gottesdienste, Hausbesuche und wir haben Lebensmittel ausgeteilt. Es war eine sehr gesegnete Zeit. Nebst dem Übersetzten hatte ich die Hauptverantwortung zusammen mit Tashona für die Kinderstunden am Nachmittag. Wir mussten Spiele organisieren, ohne dass wir jegliches Material hatten. Es war eine Herausforderung aber irgendwie haben wir es geschafft. Am letzten Tag hatten wir ca. 50 Kinder. Es war sehr schwer all die Kinder unter Kontrolle zu haben.

Nach diesen zwei Tagen dort sind wir dann am Mittwoch morgen weiter um ins nächste Dorf zu gelangen. Wir kamen dort kurz vor Mittag an. Der Plan hier war eine Kinderstunden zu machen und die restlichen Lebensmittel zu verteilen und am Abend noch einen Gottesdienst zu absolvieren. Nach dem Gottesdienst wanderten wir noch weitere 10km. Nach 10km stellten wir unser Camp auf und übernachteten unter Sternenhimmel irgendwo in der brasilianischen Wüste. Von jetzt an hiess es nur noch wandern. Wir hatten die Dörfer hinter uns, die wir erreichen wollten. Es wurde von Tag zu Tag ermüdender und schwerer, bis wir dann einen Tag vor geplanten Abschluss die Mission abgebrochen haben. So fuhren wir noch die letzten 50km. Es war jedoch sehr gut, dass wir einen Tag früher am Ziel, beim Wasser angekommen sind als geplant. Es ist interessant zu sehen, wie auf der einen Seite der Wüste ein Wassermangel herrscht und auf der anderen hat es genügend Wasser.

Das war etwa die Geschichte einwenig zusammen gefasst. Am Sonntag morgen bin ich und meine Mutter um 4Uhr auf, um den Bus nach Floriano zu nehmen. Dort trafen wir uns dann mit dem Rest der Gruppe für eine letzte gemeinsame Mahlzeit. Ich bleibe ja hier bei Reifler's und somit sehe ich die andern nicht mehr. Nach dem Mittagessen fuhr die Gruppe dann zurück auf die Ranch.

Für mich heisst es jetzt mich hier bei Reifler's einzuleben und mich mit der Arbeit vertraut zu machen. Was alles auf mich zu kommt werde ich dann noch sehen, aber es wird sicher spannend.

Ps. Bilder werde bald nachkommen. Ich werde dann noch schnell ein blog schreiben. In einigen Monaten wird es dann auch noch video clips auf youtube geben. Wir hatten ja einen Kameramann auf unserer Reise.

Back in civilization. I already want to apologize for this a bit longer blog. But I was for a while in the brazilian desert and I didn't had any internet, but I could learn and experience a lot.

On September 14th the journey started. We drove down to Caracol, where we did the last prep work for our journey. Sunday morning the trip started. Our goal was to hike through the national park called “serra das confuções”. Till now nobody really knows how many kilometres all of it was. One thing I can tell you, we had to end 50km before our destination because we run out of time and out of strength. But back to the beginning. On the first day we did ca. 17Km of hiking with two donkeys who were carrying our daypacks and water. When we arrived in the afternoon at the first village they were already awaiting us. We stayed in that village for two days. In those two days we had kids time, women lessons, worship and preaching time, house visitations and we distribute food to the houses. It was a blessed time. Beside bing a translator Shona and me had the responsibility to lead the fun time with the kids. We had to organize some games without having any supplies. It was a challenge that we somehow could deal with. On the last day we had around 50 kids. It was very hard to have all those kids under control and to play a game with all of them. After those two days we went on with our trip and we went to the next village. We arrived just before noon. The plan was to have some kids time again, to distribute the rest of the food and to have a church service. After the service we had an other 10km hike before us. After 10km we set up camp and slept out side under the stars in middle of the Brazilian desert. It was amazing. We had now all the villages behind us and the only thing we had to do now was to finish hiking. But it got harder from day to day. So we had to finish our journey a day before the planned day. So we drove the last 50km to the destination. At the destination we had natural fountain. It was good that we arrived a day before there. It is interesting to see how on one side of the desert there is no water and on the other the have enough.

So that was more or less a short version of my journey through the desert. This last Sunday morning my mother and I had to get up 4am to catch the bus to Floriano. There we met for on last meal the rest of the group. After the meal the group went back to the ranch while I stayed here with Reifler's.

Now I have to get used to live here with Reifler's and the work the have here. What is coming up, I'll see, but it will be exiting.

Erste Tage / First few days

Und schon bin ich fünf Tage hier in Brasilien. Die Temperatur sind sehr hoch und ich bin beinah am
verschmitzten. Wir sind ja am Mittwoch um ca. 1 Uhr auf der Ranch angekommen und somit hatten wir dann diesen Tag mal frei und durften uns einwenig akklimatisierten und uns mit der Umgebung vertraut machen. Doch am Donnerstag ging es dann schon los mit Vorbereitungen für ein Kongress, der sich hier auf der Rancho da Lua stat gefunden hat. Dies bedeutete, dass wir sämtliche sachen reinigen mussten und es bereit stellen für die ca. 100 Leute die kommen werden. Am Freitag war es dann so weit und die Menschenmenge kam auf der Ranch an. Eine meiner Hauptaufgaben für den Freitag war, die Leute von der Bushaltestelle abzuholen und sie runter in die Ranch zu fahren. Danach musste ich einfach immer Hilfsbereit sein um diverse Sachen zu erledigen. Der Morgen fing schon um 6.30 an und der Tag endete dann so um ca. 22:30. Ja jetzt bin ich schon erschöpft und freue mich auf einen freien Tag. Schon bald wird eine Gruppe aus der Schweiz ankommen, die mit uns durch den Sertão wandern werden. Bis nach dieser Exkursion werde ich noch hier bei meinen Eltern sein. Danach werde ich mich auf den Weg zu Simon und Rahel Reifler machen.
Ja ich denke das ist es dann auch schon wieder für den Moment. Ich freue mich schon dir bald wieder Neuigkeiten zu schreiben. Sei gesegnet


Well it's been nearly a week since we left Canada and already 5 days since we are here in Brazil. The temperature are very high and I'm melting over here. We arrived last Wednesday around 1am here at the Ranch and because of a long flight and a early arrival we had that Wednesday off. We could get starting used to the temperature and get to know the town a bit. But Thursday we already had to get started with prep work for a conference that was held here at the ranch. So we had to clean a bunch of stuff and get ready to welcome ca. 100 people here at the ranch. On Friday the people started to come. One of my main duty was to pick up the people at the busstation and drive them down to the Ranch. After that I had to be ready for any kind of task they wanted me to do. The mornings started at 6:30am and the day ended at ca. 10:30pm. Now I'm exhausted and tired. I'm happy that we have Monday off and can relax a bit. Pretty soon a groupe from Switzerland is arriving to join us on our trip through the desert of the northeast of Brazil. Till after that trip I'll be staying here with my parents and after that I'll be moving down to meet with Simon and Rahel Reifler (he will be my supervisor).

Ankunft in Brasilien / Arrival in Brazil

So jetzt ist es so weit. Ich bin gesund und sicher in Brasilien gelandet. Nach einem langen und komplizierten Flug bin ich und meine Kollegin (Tashona) endlich in Teresina gelandet. All unser Gepäck ist ganz und unbeschädigt angekommen. Im Moment gewöhnen wir uns an die heissen Temperaturen hier in Brasilien. Doch bald geht es dann los mit einem Überlebungscamp. Bis dahin heisst es hier auf der Ranch der Mission zu helfen und uns vorbereiten auf die kommende Zeit. Ich danke viel mals für dein Gebet und fürs mittragen.

Well, here we are. I landed safely in Brazil. after a long and complicated flight my friend (Tashona) and I landed in Teresina. All of our baggage arrived with out problem and damage. Right now we are getting used to the heat here in Brazil. Soon we will be going on a survival track through a national park of Brazil. But till then I'll be staying here at the Ranch of the mission and I'll be helping where they need me and also getting ready for the time to come. I thank you so much for your prayer and your support.
